His martial arts include; Hap-Ki-Do, Budo Rhyu Kempo, Aikido Sword, Kick Boxing and Boxing. Lucas holds a 5th degree black belt in our system.

Lucas served as a paramedic for five years in Alberta and BC. His love of teaching martial arts, and small B.C. towns has brought him to Tao of Peace - Kimberley.

Lucas is a loving father with four children and let’s not forget his cat, which like many of us, has special needs.

Lucas feels that students need someone to believe in them and he loves to support and mentor individuals who are striving for personal wellness.

Chris and Kathy Leigh-Smith

Chris founded the Tao - Calgary in 1992. Kathy joined Chris in 2004 and they have been working together ever since providing martial arts and life skills as a service to the community. In 2023, Tao - Calgary was sold to the instructors.

Chris and Kathy enjoyed their retirement, spending winters skiing in the mountains and summers travelling to visit their kids and grandchildren. While retirement was fun, they have decided to join forces with Lucas and open a studio in Kimberley.

Chris was a former vice principal of a high needs school in Calgary. He has taught all age groups from elementary to high school in the area of physical education, health, and science. Chris earned his B.ED at U.N.B and his Masters in Education at U of C.

Kathy, graduating for U of T, worked as a profession engineer for over 20 years before joining Chris on their many adventures.
