Belt Test Promotion

We look forward to supporting you on your marital arts and life skills journey.

Each belt level assists students in goal setting as they develop skills according to the curriculum. Our belt system is designed to provide class structure where students can be taught at their appropriate skill and belt level.

Belt test promotions at all belt levels are safe, fun, challenging, and inspiring.

Little Ninja Belt Stripes

Students will receive stripes on their belt in recognition of consistent training. The instructor will award your child a stripe on their belt when they have trained for the designated time period .

When the Little Ninja’s move up to the Junior program at 7 years old, they start their belt progression journey.

Skill Stripes on Belt

The Junior to Teen programs earn stripes on their belt for their skill progression in specific areas. The initial Foundation stripe indicates the student is ready to fine tune their skills in preparation for a belt promotion test.

When students have all 4 stripes, they will be invited to a belt progression test.

Belt Progression Order

The belt colour progression is the same for all students.

There are 2 methods by which Junior to Teen students are invited to a belt progression test.

  1. Earning all 4 skill stripes on their belt.

  2. Instructor discretion. Even if students have not yet received all 4 skill stripes, the instructor’s assessment of students progress can also identify those who are ready to test for their belt promotion.

Adults

Adults are invited to a belt promotion test at the instructors discretion. Capability, readiness factors, and time in training are all criteria for belt promotions.

Black Belt Promotion

All students, regardless of athletic ability, age or physical limitations, are capable of achieving their black belt. Our program, from white belt forward, is an individualized program designed to enhance the mind, body and spirit of each student. Since we are all unique with individual needs, strengths and areas of limitations or weaknesses, the program of martial arts and philosophy must be tailored specifically.

When students have reached the belt before black (bodan) and are ready to prepare for their black belt test, the student will pick up a test package from the office, (or request package by email), which outlines the the requirements that lead up to the event.

There is a written reflective component that is to be completed and handed in one month prior to the belt test date. Participating students will create their own personal pattern, (kata), that needs to be authorized by the Head Instructor. There are options regarding selections of uniform and belt embroidery, colour and sizes. The student schedules a meeting(s) with the head instructor to individualize the preparation, learning and review process leading up to their test.

On test day, students meet several hours prior to the physical mat portion to share and explore wisdom and philosophical concepts. The physical part of the event is between 3 - 4 hours in length.
